Setting your own custom icons
« on: Sep 27, 2015, 06:12 PM »
Once you have app creation figured out, you will want to give your apps a custom icon.

You must create four icon images.

icon.png (36x36), (48x48), (72x72) and (96x96)

If you are handy with your graphic editor I would suggest creating one 512x512 icon (master). Then scale it to the four sizes listed above. You will need the 512x512 icon for your Google Play store listing.

After you have unzipped your project folder on your PC (and before you create your apk) open the following folder

…\StudioProjects\YourApp\app\src\main\res

where YourApp is the name of your apps project folder.

Under that folder put your icon.png files in the following folders.

drawable-ldpi    <-- (icon.png 36x36)
drawable-mdpi  <-- (icon.png 48x48)
drawable-hdpi   <-- (icon.png 72x72)
drawable-xhdpi  <-- (icon.png 96x96)

Then open your project in Android Studio and go to Build->Generate APK

If you re-export your project file, the icons go back to their default and you will have to repeat this process.

I'm going to lock this thread now before it gets too big. Please start a new topic to discuss your experiences.
